TIMES 2020: 100 Best Young Adult Books of All Time
Join Percy as he embarks on an exhilarating adventure series through a secret world - the realm that the ancient Greek gods have recreated around us in the 21st century. What would happen if you one day discovered that you are the child of a Greek god with a covert mission to fulfill? This is precisely the situation Percy Jackson finds himself in.
Expelled from six schools, Percy struggles with dyslexia and difficulties in concentration - or at least, that's the official version. Mocked for inventing fantastical stories, even he doesn't fully believe them until the day the Olympian gods reveal the truth: Percy is no less than a demigod, the son of a god and a mortal. And as such, he must uncover who has stolen Zeus's lightning bolt and avert a war among the gods. To accomplish this mission, he has the assistance of his friends Grover, a young satyr, and Annabeth, the daughter of Athena.
Ranked among the best-selling titles on The New York Times and Publishers Weekly lists, this series has been adapted for the big screen by director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two "Harry Potter" installments.
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION: Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse: Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
